The chemical formula of mineral Cahnite is indicated by Ca2B(AsO4)(OH)4. This mineral is most commonly found at a late-stage mineral in pegmatites cutting a metamorphosed statiform zinc orebody. Mineral Cahnite is most commonly found at its type of locality from Franklin, Sussex Co., New Jersy, USA. Mineral Cahnite was named for Lazard Cahn(1865-1940), mineral collector and dealer, Colordo Springs, Colorado, USA, who first noted the species. Mineral Cahnite is known to crystallize in the tetragonal system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, this tetragonal system comprises crystals having three axes, which are all in a position perpendicular to one another. Two axes are usually found having the same or equal length.

Mineral Cahnite is most commonly found showing perfect cleavage when evaluated under polarizing light microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. Cahnite is most commonly found colorless or white in hand sample. The specific gravity measure of the mineral is usually found 3.16 grams per cubic centimeters. Most crystals of mineral Cahnite are found transparent in appearance. Cahnite is commonly found showing brittle fracture that is generally displayed by glasses and most non-metallic minerals when viewed under polarizing microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. The hardness measure of mineral Cahnite when it is evaluated using the Mohs scale method is usually found 3. Cahnite is also known as a non-fluorescent mineral. This mineral is commonly found exhibiting vitreous or glassy luster. Mineral Cahnite is non-magnetic. It is also most commonly found leaving a white streak when rubbed on a white porcelain streak plate. Cahnite is most commonly found showing uniaxial positive figure when rubbed on a white porcelain streak plate. Cahnite is also commonly found showing 0.0010 birefringence. Cahnite is a non-radioactive mineral as evaluated.
