The chemical formula of mineral Bafertisite is indicated by the chemica formula Ba(Fe++,Mn)2TiSi2O7(O,OH)2. It is commonly found at Alkaline igneous rocks. It is commonly found at its type of locality at Bayan Obo REE deposit, Inner Mongolia, Juangso Province, China. The mineral was named for the composition (Ba,ferrous, Ti, Si). This mineral is known to crystallize in the monoclic system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, the monoclinic system of crystal formation comprises crystals having three axes of unequal lengths. Two of which are usually found in a position that is oblique or not perpendicular to one another. However, both of which are commonly found perpendicular to the third axis.
Mineral Bafertisite is commonly found showing perfect cleavage in one direction an poor in the other direction. It is most commonly found colored red, yellowish red and light brown in hand sample. The specific gravity measure of mineral Bafertisite is usually found ranging from 3.96 to 4.25 grams per cubic centimeters giving an average of about 4.1. Most crystals of mineral Bafertisite are found translucent in appearance. Bafertisite is also most commonly found showing brittle fracture when viewed closely under polarized microscopes. This is generally displayed by glasses and most non-metallic minerals. The crystal habit of mineral Bafertisite as described in the field of optical mineralogy is usually found granular in form. This is generally found occuring as anhedral to subhedral crystals in matrix. The hardness measure of mineral Bafertisite when evaluated using the Mohs scale method is usually found 5. Bafertisite is commonly found showing vitreous or glassy luster when viewed in reflected light of polarizing microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. Mineral Bafertisite is also most commonly found leaving a white streak when rubbed on a white porcelain streak plate. Mineral Bafertisite is most commonly found showing biaxial negative figure when evaluated between crossed nicols of polarized microscope for mineralogists. It is also most commonly found showing 0.0540-0.0660 birefringence. Mineral Bafertisite is known to be pleochroic and most commonly found showing yellow red or brownish red, yellow, pale yellow, or greenish yellow. Bafertisite is a non-radioactive mineral as evaluated.
